About Our Institute

Founded in 1995, the Mississippi Institute of Delta Culture has been at the forefront of preserving and promoting the unique cultural heritage of the Mississippi Delta for over three decades.

As we look toward 2026, our mission has evolved to include innovative digital preservation methods, community outreach programs, and partnerships with educational institutions worldwide.

The Delta region, often called "the most Southern place on Earth," is a cultural crossroads where African, European, and Native American traditions blended to create distinctive music, food, literature, and folkways that have influenced global culture.
